Following persistent criticism of her handling of military modernization programs and the country’s arms deliveries to Ukraine, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht has resigned.
Monday, Lambrecht released a statement announcing that she had submitted her resignation request to Chancellor Olaf Scholz. She said that “months of media focus on my person” had prevented a factual discussion about Germany’s security policy and the military from taking place.
She stated, “The valuable work of many people in my department and the soldiers must stand in the foreground.”
