Federal High Court to hear suit seeking referendum for Biafra, others

A Federal High Court in Abuja has set to hear a suit filed by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) seeking a referendum for an independent States for all Indigenous persons that wants to break out of Nigeria. The Suit which came up on January 21 2022 was adjourned to 14th March for hearing after the presiding Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo failed to attend to the Suit.

The suit is asking the court to compel the National Assembly and the Attorney General of the Federation to halt the ongoing constitutional review exercise and in its place, conduct a referendum to determine the existence of Nigeria and who populates it.

Barrister Sufiyanu Gambo Idris is the counsel representing the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) under Arewa nation , Victor Onwaremadu is lead counsel representing Igbo nation , Barrister Timilehin Albert is the Counsel Yoruba nation , Barr. Sunday Efiko is the lead counsel representing Ijaw Nation while other nations in Nigeria are joining the suit .

CNG Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, stated that they have an interesting development adding that all tribes in Nigeria have come together to agree on a peaceful decent, and civilized way out of the quagmire we have been in for more than 60 years and thinks through referendum all tribes in Nigeria will determined peacefully whether to belong to Nigeria or not .
