On Wednesday, Mr. Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, referred to the agitation for Biafra in the South Eastern region of the country as a cover for criminal activity.
He cautioned those involved in the agitation that their actions would not frighten the government.
During the opening of an ultra-modern divisional police station attached to a police barracks for senior police officers, Baba spoke in Amawbia, near Awka, in Anambra State.
He promised that under his direction, the police will not spare criminals who hide in the guise of agitation in order to attack the people.
He lamented that in the name of calling for a separate state, agitators are committing crimes in the state and the entire South East by attacking police officers and other public facilities.
This is not how secessionist ideas will continue. The government will not be intimidated by these individuals because there are better methods of agitation. Baba stated, “The agitation for Biafra is just a smokescreen for criminality. This is criminality.”
He urged communities to support vigilante operatives, describing them as crucial to the fight against crime, while describing security as everyone’s business.
The head of the police made a promise to help the state commissioner of police keep order in the state.

IPOB criticizes IG In the meantime, the Indigenous People of Biafra have insisted that the agitation in Biafra is not motivated by criminal activity, as Baba claims.
Because IPOB has refused to give up on Biafra restoration, the pro-Biafran group said that the Federal Government and security agencies were working with criminals to blackmail IPOB.
In an interview with The PUNCH, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful stated that the IG was unnecessarily focusing on innocent Biafra agitators, despite the fact that bandits and terrorists are being lavished in the North and even granted amnesty by the Federal Government.
He stated, “It demonstrated that the IG has nothing to offer.” While bandits and terrorists roam free in the North, he is busy condemning innocent Biafrans seeking freedom.
“Notwithstanding the portion framework, someone like Baba ought not be involving the seat of the IG. He has spoken about innocent Biafrans seeking their freedom ever since he took office.
“He has nothing to do or say because nobody will know he came to Anambra State if he doesn’t talk about the agitations in Biafra. They are just flying around like a plane without a pilot; IPOB has defeated them without weapons.
