Melaye’s emergence as gov candidate dangerous, says ex-deputy gov

Yomi Awoniyi, a former Kogi State deputy governor, claims that the People’s Democratic Party’s governorship primary in Kogi State on Sunday lacks credibility.

Dino Melaye, a former senator who represented Kogi West, won the primary with 313 votes. Awoniyi came next with 77 votes.

Awoniyi, on the other hand, referred to Melaye’s votes as coming from a “tainted delegates list” in a statement released on Monday in Lokoja.

“I dare to say without a shadow of a doubt that Senator Melaye’s victory is a pyrrhic one. This triumph predicts incredible risk to the solidarity of our party and the possibility of winning the November 11 governorship political race.

“The primary that resulted in Senator Melaye’s election was flawed; The pathetic Senator Abdul Ningi Congress Committee, which collaborated with Senator Dino Melaye’s enablers within the party hierarchy at the highest level, replaced the 158 delegates who emerged from the state ad hoc congress on March 29, 2023.

Awoniyi argued that “it is not a fair contest to gift any aspirant, a total of 158 votes in a contest for 739 votes, involving eight aspirants.” Because it gives the preferred candidate an unfair advantage, it is unethical, duplicitous, sinful, and fraudulent. In a fraudulent primary, Senator Dino Melaye prevailed.

From the renouncing, it might astound numerous that I don’t be guaranteed to fault Congressperson Dino Melaye for where we get ourselves today. As the celestial counsellor he claims to be, he must examine his heart to determine whether he has behaved appropriately. However, I blame his backers.

Melaye, on the other hand, gave God the credit for his rise to prominence as the PDP’s candidate for governor of Kogi State in a statement on Monday.

He said, “Today (Sunday), April 16, 2023, the All-powerful God showed off his abilities in my day to day existence, by answering my Scriptural name, Daniel. He fought for me and won. I got the victory on behalf of all the other candidates, the great Peoples Democratic Party members inside and outside Kogi State, and the good people of Kogi State.

“It is heartening to have the PDP demonstrate to the world that Nigeria is not the jungle that the APC paints it to be in the recently conducted elections over the last 50 days. This comes on the heels of the democratic sacrilege committed by the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State approximately 48 hours ago and the electoral revulsion belching out of Adamawa State.

“I thank the leaders of our party at the national, state, local, and ward levels, my dear brothers, who advanced the cause of democracy in this contest, and our numerous supporters who made sure that peace reigned, decorum prevailed, and conflicts were contained throughout the process,” the candidate said.
