My Loyalties Lie with Tinubu, Not APC – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, clarified his allegiance on Wednesday, stating that his dedication is towards President Bola Tinubu rather than the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am aligned with Tinubu’s vision, not the APC. Tinubu has placed his trust in me to contribute to the realization of a renewed sense of hope,” Wike explained during his appearance on Channels TV Politics Today.

He continued, “I don’t owe anyone an apology. I was a member of the PDP, and I actively supported Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s bid to become the President of Nigeria.”

Recent controversy arose regarding Wike’s reported affiliation with the APC after his name appeared on the ruling party’s campaign council list for the gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states on November 11.

This was followed by the party’s denial, issued on Tuesday night, refuting the authenticity of the contentious documents that contained the names of council chairpersons, co-chairpersons, and members for the governorship elections. The statement from the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, declared that these lists were not official party documents and should be disregarded.

The inclusion of Wike’s name, disclosed in documents signed and shared on the party’s social media platform by the National Organizing Secretary, Suleiman Arugungu, sparked intense debate, particularly within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

During his discussion on Wednesday night, Wike maintained his stance as a member of the primary opposition party. He expressed that he feels no obligation to apologize for supporting Tinubu during the presidential election on February 25.

When questioned about the possibility of facing disciplinary measures from his party, the former governor of Rivers State responded confidently, “Who holds that authority? Who are they? To be honest, I have yet to encounter the individual who can suspend me. It won’t happen. No one can do it. Who would dare suspend me? Who?”
