NCC disqualifies Nigerians below 18 from getting SIM

The Nigerian Communications Commission has precluded anybody beneath the age of 18 from enlisting and claiming a Subscriber Identity Module in Nigeria.

This is as per the draft duplicate of the changed Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations distributed on the commission’s site.

In the changed guidelines, NCC restricted telecoms supporters of just incorporate anybody over the age of 18.

“‘Endorser’ signifies an individual not beneath the age of 18 years who prefers correspondences administrations by buying a membership medium or going into a membership contract with a licensee.”

The Licensee alludes to ‘a supplier of correspondences benefits that uses a membership medium in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’.

The guidelines were made in accordance with the forces gave upon the commission by area 70 of the Nigerian Communications Act,2003.

As per Section 57 of the Act, the NCC directed a Public Inquiry on the Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations, close by the draft SIM Replacement Guidelines and the draft Spectrum Trading Guidelines at its administrative center in Abuja on Tuesday.

NCC’s Executive Commissioner Stakeholders’ Management, Mr Adeleke Adewolu, gave the introduction at the occasion.

He said, “The public request is a road that empowers the commission create and audit its administrative instruments by fusing the remarks and ideas of industry partners.”

During the public request, which was held truly and practically, key partners, including MTN, asked the commission to modify as far as possible.

MTN requested that the commission make as far as possible 14 years or more.

The NCC, nonetheless, demanded 18 years or more for any individual who needs to possess and enlist a SIM in Nigeria.
