Obaseki mourns Nigeria’s first female senator, Afegbua

Franca Afegbua, a former senator who represented the Bendel North Senatorial District in Old Bendel State, has passed away, and the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has expressed his grief.

Afegbua was Nigeria’s first democratically elected female senator, and she passed away at the age of 79.

The governor said in a statement on Monday that Afegbua is a “pace-setter, trail-blazer, and visioner” who continues to be an inspiration for women in Nigeria and Africa.

He said, “I’m disheartened by the fresh insight about the death of Nigeria’s most memorable equitably chosen female representative, who addressed Bendel North Senatorial Area of Old Bendel State.

“She was a business person who supported the reason for female portrayal in government and orientation mainstreaming when it was a colossal errand. She was a pioneer who should be praised for her valiance and commendable endeavors.”

The governor said that Afegbua’s death was a big loss because she was an example for young girls who need role models.
