Russia is told by Nigeria to stop the aggression and withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

In Nigeria, the Federal Government met with representatives from the G7 countries to voice concerns about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and to call for peace to end the conflict.Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, met with the envoys on Friday in Abuja and stated that the Nigerian government urged peace and the use of diplomacy to settle all disagreements.Onyeama said that Nigeria does not support Russia’s aggressive strategy and urged Russia to back off.”Both sides must prioritize peace and diplomacy.Onyeama stated, “We support every effort being made to stop the aggression and return Russian troops to Russia.”Birgitt Ory, the German Ambassador to Nigeria and Chair of the G7 Group, expressed appreciation to journalists for the African Union’s statement regarding the situation after the closed-door meeting.Ory said that Nigeria is a very important voice that the world needed to hear and praised Nigeria for exerting itself.He stated that the unwavering condemnation of the attacks by all UN member states in light of Russia’s military action is also evident.Ory stated that there would be resolutions in the Security Council of the United Nations, the General Assembly, and other UN forums, such as the Human Rights Council, where Nigeria has a significant voice and is a member.Additionally present were: Mary Beth Leonard, the Ambassador of the United States to Nigeria; Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria; Samuela Isopi is in charge of the European Union’s delegation to ECOWAS and Nigeria.NAN reports that the Canadian and Japanese embassies’ representatives were also present.
