Kiran Bedi strongly believes that uneducated women give birth to more children. The statement was made while interacting with students in Ahmadabad. She also stated that the women who are uneducated have more time at hand compared to educated women and are also deprived of decision making powers. She supported her argument by referring to a recent study done by IndiaSpend.
According to the research, around 19 million Indian women give birth to seven or more children. According to a report from IANS, a substantial majority of these women are illiterate and reside in the rural parts of the country.
Despite such a huge chunk of population falling under this category, there is a consistent drop in the percentage of such women. This can be attributed to the growth of literacy in women. So far, the statistics indicate a direct correlation between the literacy rate of women and the average child birth.
