Residents in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu woke up on Wednesday to the sounds of gunfire and explosions as Al-Shaabab militants attacked police stations and security checkpoints, CGTN Africa reports.
Internal Security Minister, Abdullahi Nor confirmed the attack through his Twitter account
Al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab, which aims to topple the central government, carries out frequent attacks against the government, including attacking a minibus carrying election delegates last week.
There were no immediate details on casualties. Police are expected to provide more details on the attacks.
