Accolades as NAFDAC’s image maker, Abubakar Jimoh retires

Following three decades of dedicated service, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, an esteemed journalist, accomplished public relations expert, and Director of Public Affairs at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has officially entered retirement.

Impacted by the Federal Government’s 8-year tenure policy, Jimoh departed from the Public Affairs Department with genuine emotions.

In 1993, upon his entry into the then-budding NAFDAC, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh played a pivotal role in establishing the Public Relations Unit, showcasing his exceptional prowess as a public relations practitioner. His exemplary skills garnered him recognition as one of the finest within the Federal Civil Service.

As an innovative investigative journalist, Jimoh spearheaded the apprehension of Chinese nationals Fred Huang and Joseph Huang, and oversaw the confiscation of 28 truckloads of counterfeit medications, valued at millions of naira, within the agency’s initial two years.

Upon his retirement announcement, Prof. Moji Christianah Adeyeye, the current Director-General of NAFDAC, expressed her gratitude, stating, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation for the five productive years we have collaborated. The impactful contributions of the Public Affairs sector, spanning several months, are deeply valued and I am confident they will persist. I wish you the utmost success in your future pursuits.”

Appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018, Jimoh assumed a role as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA). His academic accomplishments include a Ph.D. in Political Economy and a distinguished academic record from the University of Ibadan.

In 1993, he earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Lagos, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Information Systems from the University of Ibadan in 1997.

Before joining NAFDAC, Dr. Jimoh excelled as an aviation correspondent and served as the Kwara State Editor for Triumph Newspapers.
