Benin is rocked by protests over the rape and murder of UNIBEN students: Uwaila Omozuwa

On Thursday, hundreds of protesters violated the COVID-19 social distance rules and are currently protesting the alleged rape and murder of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a University of Benin first-year Microbiology student.

According to Igbere TV, the UNIBEN Students’ Union Government (SUG) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), whose national president is Danielson Bamidele Akpan, are leading the protest.

As soon as 7am Thursday, the nonconformists in their numbers, united at the front of the College maingate, Ugbowo grounds, conveying bulletins teaching against orientation based viciousness; murder and rape.

The UNIBEN SUG issued a statement on Wednesday urging all students, SUG senators, NANS comrades, University comrades, and other concerned individuals “that wants justice for late Miss Vera Uwaila” to participate in a “peaceful demonstration” demanding the deceased’s wrongful death.

“We need to encourage everybody, that it’s significant we turn out in our numbers. This is on the grounds that we will push for Equity for the departed, and furthermore that such a terrible wrongdoing like this shouldn’t rehash the same thing in the Establishment, State, Country and Universally,” the assertion added.
