President Muhammadu Buhari, presently before the initiation of the 27th virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, swore in Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Buhari reappointed Yakubu as Chairman of INEC for an additional five-year term on October 27th.
Prof Yakubu is the principal Chairman to be reappointed to head the Commission.
The INEC Chairman has said that the nation’s decisions are improving.
Addressing State House Correspondents soon after he was confirmed Prof Yakubu stated:
‘We have unmistakably shown in late races that decisions are improving and they will keep on improving.
‘The National Assembly is holding a formal conference on the alteration of the discretionary lawful system. This is significant and this time around, working with the National Assembly, we’ll guarantee an expedient section of the change bill and whenever it is consented to, it will help us hugely in defying the difficulties ahead.
‘The arrangements for 2023 general races have continued decisively, we need assurance and thusly the discretionary legitimate system is principal, without which we can’t figure our guidelines and rules.
