BREAKING:Tension as explosion rocks Ogun, police allays fears

On Sunday, an explosion rocked Ojodu Abiodun in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, raising tensions among the local populace.
According to the Daily Post, the area’s residents claim to have yet to determine the explosion’s cause.
The residents were concerned that the loud bang they heard early on Sunday might have been caused by a bomb.
“The explosion was as a result of chemical reaction that occurred in the compartment of a refuse dump,” the Ogun State Police command stated.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, claims that when Lanre Bankole, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, learned of the explosion, he immediately dispatched the Explosive Ordinance Department to the scene to determine what was causing the frightening sound.
He stated, “The team’s finding was that the explosion was as a result of a chemical reaction that occurred in the compartment of refuse dump, which is the refuse dumping ground within the Tarmac along the River Valley Estate.” The explosion occurred in the Tarmac.
According to the police spokesperson, the explosion was not an attack as many had speculated, as it occurred at midnight with no one present at the scene.
Oyeyemi stated that the explosion did not result in the loss of life or property and that no part of an improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered at the scene or in the surrounding area.
Oyeyemi said that the “area has been declared bomb-free by experts” and urged Ogun residents to carry out their legal activities.
