Elections: Your votes will count, Buhari assures Nigerians

Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), the President, has assured Nigerians that “Your vote shall count” and urged them to vote for their preferred candidates in the elections on February 25 and March 11.

This was because he promised the voters that enough security was in place to make sure the exercise went smoothly.

This was made public by Buhari on Thursday during a national broadcast from Abuja’s State House.

“I urge every citizen, therefore, to go out and vote for their candidates of choice without fear, because security will be provided and your vote will count,” the President stated.

“I do, however, caution you to avoid acts that could disrupt the electoral processes and to abstain from violence.”

Buhari confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s new Naira policy has reduced money politics while announcing the new April 10 deadline for the distribution of the old N200 notes.

I am aware that this new monetary policy has significantly reduced the influence of money in politics.

He stated, “This is a bold legacy step by this administration, towards laying a strong foundation for free and fair elections,” and “this is a positive departure from the past.”
