Justice is different from judgement, Nigerians Know Who won On Feb 25 – Okutepa

Jubril Okutepa SAN was one of the legal counsels representing the Labour Party and Peter Obi during the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPC) proceedings.

Regardless of the judicial decisions based on factual evidence, Nigerians are aware of the reality of what transpired during the presidential election in Nigeria on February 25, 2023. Truth, facts, and evidentiary proof are distinct concepts. While courts rely on factual evidence, the truth may transcend mere evidence.

It would be in Nigeria’s best interest to consistently uphold truth in the governance of its affairs. Nigerians are familiar with the challenges faced by petitioners dealing with INEC and the frequent issues regarding the provision of pink copies of election results to party agents.

Judgments have been rendered, but justice differs from judgment. Nigeria will ultimately experience the consequences of the decisions made by those entrusted to do what is just and right. Those who have received judgments are aware of the truth within their hearts, as are those celebrating. Truth remains constant.

By virtue of my legal training, I hold the courts in high regard, and I am obliged to respect their decisions. This is what the rule of law mandates. Nevertheless, I maintain my steadfast conviction in the pursuit of truth with unwavering courage. No legal terminology can transform what is inherently wrong into something right. Nigerians are cognizant of the truth.
