National Assembly not under siege by DSS – Management

The widespread rumor that members of the Department of State Service, or DSS, were encroaching upon the complex has been denied by management at the National Assembly.

Keep in mind that a video of a similar incident in 2018 has been trending on social media since Monday of this week. The video shows members of the nation’s secret police blocking the main gate of the national parliament, causing tangible tension.

Agada Rawlings Emmanuel, director of information for the national assembly, cleared up the confusion late Wednesday night by stating that the unverified video clip was the work of miscreants whose goals were unclear.

The statement went as follows: An unverified video that is trending on social media and was tweeted from the Twitter handle of @Chukwuebuka, claiming that officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) are occupying the National Assembly complex, has been brought to the attention of the management of the National Assembly.

“The unverified video clip that was reposted was a reported incident that occurred in 2018 at the main entrance gate that leads into the National Assembly complex, which is currently undergoing reconstruction and is close to completion for commissioning.

“It is therefore intriguing to comprehend the purpose of this mischief marker’s repost, which aims to gauge the country’s political mood and the upcoming fourth general election.

“In light of the fact that the National Assembly members are currently on recess and the staff are not under any siege by the DSS, the said unverified malicious, mischievous, and misleading reposted video is to be discounted in its entirety as fake news.

In order to prevent further abuse and the dissemination of false information into the media, which could cause panic, mischief, and anxiety and result in the breakdown of law and order, as this repost may have been intended, further investigation by the relevant security agencies is anticipated.

“The National Assembly, the symbol of our hard-earned democracy is under siege by the DSS or any security Agencies of the Government,” according to the aforementioned press release, “to clear the doubts, concerns, and anxiety in the public domain.”
