Allegedly, Pastor Taiwo Odebiyi Sets 21-Year-Old Lady, Sukura Owodunni, Ablaze During Deliverance Prayer
In a disturbing incident, a 21-year-old woman identified as Sukura Owodunni has reportedly suffered severe burns after being set on fire by Pastor Taiwo Odebiyi during a deliverance session at his Cherubim and Seraphim Maberu Parish located in Offin, within the Sagamu region of Ogun State.
According to reports from PUNCH Metro, the incident occurred on August 17, 2023, during a special prayer session to which the victim had been invited by the pastor.
It is said that during the course of the deliverance, the pastor instructed the young woman to acquire Amazing Grace perfume, local eggs, and a candle for the ritual.
During the prayer, Pastor Taiwo Odebiyi reportedly anointed the lady with the perfume and lit the candle. Tragically, right after the candle was ignited, Sukura Owodunni’s body caught fire, resulting in severe burns to her chest, shoulders, and legs.
An eyewitness shared that the authorities promptly arrested the pastor after the incident, following the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer in Adigbe, CSP Abdulfattah Ogunsanya, and his team, who arrived at the scene on Tuesday.
Ogun State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro, indicating that a thorough investigation was underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the case. She also noted that the victim had been left to manage her own medical expenses following the incident, and she had been admitted to the hospital for medical care.
Odutola assured that the suspect was in police custody and that after preliminary investigations, the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further handling.
