Tribunal: LP Knocks PEPC Over Tinubu’s Legal Team’s Watermark On Judgement Copy

The Labour Party (LP) has raised questions regarding the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) judgment, which bore the header of the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team (TPLT), as reported by The Herald.

Earlier, there were speculations that the tribunal’s ruling may have been compromised in favor of President Bola Tinubu due to the presence of Tinubu Presidential Legal Team watermarks on the copies circulating on social media.

However, Babatunde Ogala (SAN), the coordinator of the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team, issued a statement on Saturday to refute such claims. Ogala explained that the judgment was not compromised, and the watermarks were applied by their team after receiving copies of the consolidated judgment from the Court of Appeal. He also mentioned that lawyers for the PDP were present when they collected their copies from the court registry.

In response to this situation, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiorah Ifoh, has called on the PEPC and the ruling APC to clarify what transpired regarding the controversy and the presence of the TPLT header on the CTC of the judgment.

Ifoh stated that the party was concerned about the delay in releasing the judgment and the subsequent controversy. The Labour Party urged the PEPC and the TPLT to provide an explanation to prevent speculation and suspicions regarding the situation.

The party emphasized that the header should not be mistaken for a watermark and called for transparency in clarifying the matter to ensure confidence in the judicial process.

The LP requested that the PEPC and APC provide urgent answers and disclose whose imprimatur is inscribed on the entire judgment to satisfy the public’s right to know.
