On Thursday, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said that he is working to get Labour Party, LP candidate Mr. Peter Obi elected as Nigeria’s next president.
At a Town Hall meeting that the LP presidential candidate addressed in Makurdi, the governor made the public declaration. He said that his decision was based on his belief that Mr. Obi was mentally and physically ready to restore the country’s functioning.

The court prevents the PDP and INEC from suspending Ortom and disqualifying him.
He stated that the time had come for Nigerians to forsake political loyalty and affiliation in favor of selecting a god-fearing, capable, and competent individual to lead the nation out of its precarious situation.
He stated, “We have come to a time where we must leave out sentiments and save Nigeria by looking at individuals who can lead with the fear of God and provide gainful employment for the youth.” He was referring to the situation.
“In the year 2023, we must design a new Nigeria that offers the people equity, fairness, and justice.
“Nigerians have been let down by the PDP, the APC, political parties, and even the Labour Party. Nigerians have been let down by all of them. Therefore, we must focus on individuals, specifically those who are able to deliver.
This has nothing to do with my political affiliation; I work for Peter Obi rather than the Labour Party. We will sleep with our eyes shut, as Peter Obi will ensure. Our nation will stop the unnecessary killings that are taking place there.
“I have decided to back him. Thank you for choosing Peter Obi, everyone. Peter Obi, one of the three presidential candidates, possesses the character and expertise necessary to lead Nigeria.
In the meantime, Mr. Obi gave a virtual address to the gathering. He was supposed to be there in person, but bad weather forced him to cancel his flight.
The presidential candidate assured the Benue people that their efforts would not be in vain by thanking them, particularly Governor Ortom, for supporting his candidacy.
Mr. Obi stated that he would make every effort to visit Benue prior to the elections and that he would also ensure that the state did not remain unchanged when he took office following the elections.
