Fight For S-South: Obidients compromise Oborevwori, Omo-Agege’s possibilities in Delta

There is a good chance that the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25 will have an impact on how voters vote in the Governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday in some South-South states, but this certainty is subject to shifting political dynamics.

Fight between Oborevwori and Omo-Agege despite Obidients’ audacity in Delta In Delta State, where Sheriff Oborevwori of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are the leading candidates for governor, the exploit of the Labour Party (LP) in the polls in question has made the underrated “Obidients” a significant factor in the polls

Be aware, however, that Obidients are not the only LP members. They are groups of citizens, particularly young people with permanent voter’s cards, or PVCs, who think it’s time to get rid of the old group of politicians who have been running the country and states for years and put in new ones. They are more numerous than registered members of political parties, who are the ones who generate the most noise during elections.

The “Obidients” are being monitored by more than just the governorship candidates. The candidates for the House of Assembly are following the LP revolutionaries to markets, churches, and all other public locations where they know they are gathered in their areas to observe what they did on February 25. In Delta State, political wisdom is beginning with the Obidients’ fear.

During the week, the state chairman, Tony Ezeagwu, discredited reports that the LP was negotiating with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa ahead of Saturday’s elections, stating that the party has its candidate, Ken Pela.

I want the general public to know that the LP in Delta State has no business with Governor Okowa, the PDP, or any other party in the state. LP is not talking to Okowa or any other party. We have not, as a party, had any such discussions or meetings with Okowa, and we have no intention of doing so.

Curiously, despite Ezeagwu’s assertion that LP had nothing to do with the PDP or any other party, a coalition of support groups for Peter Obi in the state led by Mr. Ochuko Edafe pitched a tent with Omo-Agege on Monday in Asaba, claiming that the Obidients in the state would vote for him because he is the most credible candidate for governor.

For sure, the LP shook the table in Delta on February 25 with PDP losing 18 out of the 25 neighborhood government regions in the state to the LP.

The LP won two of its House of Representatives seats. Mr. Ngozi Okolie, who carried the party flag in the federal constituency of Aniocha/Oshimili, defeated Ndudu Elumelu, the PDP candidate and Minority Leader of the House.

Evelyn Oboro, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the PDP in the federal constituency of Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie, bowed to Ben Etenabene of the LP.

The state’s main opposition party, the APC, won the Delta South and Delta Central senatorial seats, putting PDP’s chances in jeopardy. In the March 11 elections, PDP only won the Delta North senatorial seat. However, PDP won six seats in the state House of Representatives, APC one, and LP two.

Many people believe that the upsets could have an impact on the elections for Governor and House of Assembly, with LP candidate Ken Pela benefiting greatly. However, on the ground, it does not appear so.

Oborevwori, who enjoys the support of young people throughout the state due to his outgoing personality, and Omo-Agege, who is supported more by politicians who lost out in the power game with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the primary promoter of Oborevwori, and some citizens who are dissatisfied with the PDP in the state, are likely to have different outcomes in Saturday’s governorship race.

Gbagi’s push Gbagi, a lawyer and former Minister of State for Education, is considered one of the front-runners despite running on the SDP platform. His ability to connect with a wide range of demographics and broaden his perspective on governance, combined with his respectable upbringing, has resulted in an increase in his support across Delta State’s 25 local government areas.
