Obi confronts opponents and asserts that the presidency is not a retirement home or a place to rotate

Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, said that Nigeria’s presidency is not a retirement home or a place where people wait for turns, taking aim at his political opponents.

Evidently, Obi was referring to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), both of whom are in their 70s. Tinubu had once insisted that Nigeria’s presidency belonged to him.

Obi, who was in Anambra for a rally, a private meeting with traditional rulers, and a town hall meeting with students, stated that he is the right person to fix Nigeria.

Obi made the following remarks during a meeting with the state’s traditional rulers: It is not a one-way street. This has more to do with capacity than turn, and if it were about turn, people like us would insist that it is our turn and should be taken into consideration.

“The job of a president is to unite and rebuild the country, not to get a retirement loan or any other kind of settlement.

“In comparison to the other candidates who are older, you will find that I and my running mate are young.

“When you talk about qualifications, I am the most qualified and the youngest of them all.” “This is not a job for rehabilitation of people; Nigeria needs a strong and vibrant person as president who is in tune with the trending and modern style of leadership so that our country would be counted among the committee of great nations in the world.” “When you talk about qualifications, I am the most qualified and the youngest of them all.”

Obi stated that he owes no one an apology for being stingy in response to claims that he is stingy.

“They said I was a stingy man, but I think it’s better that they didn’t say I was extravagant or that I took public funds for myself. They only stated that I am stingy, and I assure you that neither the position nor the presidency of our nation require stingy candidates.

At the youth town hall meeting, Obi said that his administration would address the issue of university lecturers striking, and that the revenue from petroleum products that people are sharing is about what lecturers want.

Why would there be a strike at our universities? Because people want to share oil money and are not producing anything, there is no reason to support that. When you think about it, the money that they are stealing is about what could be used to fix our educational system and universities.
